A smile really impacts someone’s confidence because if someone’s holding back their smile, they’re holding back the way they feel about themselves. Smiling has to do with confidence and it has to do with self-esteem. So, when we’re able to improve someone’s smile, we’re able to impact their self-esteem and confidence.

I’ve definitely seen patients’ lives change after smile makeovers, and that’s actually one of the most rewarding things about the work that we do. We consistently see people become more confident, improve their self-esteem, and just feel better about themselves because now they have a smile that they’re so proud of and excited about.

Sometimes people hold back their smiles for different reasons. It could be something they’re dealing with from their past like maybe a bad dental experience, trauma to their teeth, or even just something about the appearance of their smile that they don’t like.
They become self-conscious about it, and when we’re able to improve that and can change the
appearance of their teeth, it gives them the confidence they’ve been looking for.

One of the most rewarding transformations I’ve witnessed, and honestly, I feel very blessed to say this happens often in our office, was a woman whose smile we transformed.

When we handed her the mirror to reveal her new smile, she immediately had tears of joy. What stood out to me most was what she said next. She told us, “Instead of being the person who’s always behind the camera taking pictures of everyone else, now I can be in front of the camera.
I’d love to have my picture taken.”

That might seem like a small thing to some people, but for her, it was life-changing. If you don’t feel comfortable smiling, you tend to avoid being in photos and you miss out on memories. For her, that one transformation didn’t just change her smile; it allowed her to show up in her own life again.

That’s one of the moments that’s had the biggest impact on not only on our patient, but on me as well.
